Turkey’s busiest international airport is Istanbul’s Atatürk International Airport (IST), about 23 km from Sultanahmet (the historical district of İstanbul). There is also a smaller airport, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), distant about 50 km from Sultanahmet, located on the Asian side of the city.
During the busy summer months, you can also catch international flights to/from Kayseri (ASR), Antalya (AYT), Bodrum (BJV), Dalaman (DLM) and Izmir (ADB). From Turkey’s other airports, including Ankara, you usually have to transit Istanbul.
Turkish Airlines is Turkey’s national carrier, which has direct flights from Istanbul to most capital cities around the world.
